Mission Statement

The mission of Shelby City Schools is to develop each student's skills, attitude, and knowledge to the fullest potential by providing and promoting positive, superior, and challenging learning experiences.

Shelby City Schools include a solid financial situation, supportive board of education, and supportive business/education partnerships throughout the community. Gifted programs and advanced placements, along with special education programs and vocational training, ensure a spectrum of academic venues that targets individual educational requirements.

Extracurricular activities, community volunteers, and active parent groups provide a unique and personal touch, making Shelby City Schools the place to receive a quality education.

Founded in 1880, St. Mary School of Shelby is chartered by the state of Ohio and was one of the first school systems to become fully accredited by the Ohio Catholic School Accrediting Association.

St. Mary School provides quality education to students from preschool through sixth grade. The students are housed in one building built in 1968.

There are 53 children (ages 3-5) enrolled in the preschool program with 166 students attending kindergarten through sixth grade. Students are not required to be Roman Catholic to enroll.

PCTC provides educational services to high school students and adults alike, teaching them the skills that employers want.

Pioneer customizes training programs to suit particular needs, and the school offers 35 career/technical programs, combing real life skills with academic knowledge.

North Central State College's main campus is located just minutes from Shelby on St. Rt. 39. The college now has a presence in Shelby as well, having acquired the former Shelby Insurance building and developed an Advanced Technology Training Center.

NC State has been in existence since 1961 as the largest public college in North Central Ohio and offers over 60 (total) associate degree and certificate programs.
